Glorious sunshine for the Mixed Open

The traditional Bank Holiday Mixed Open took place in glorious sunshine. 44 pairs, both members and visitors put their waterproofs away, donned their summer golfing attire and enjoyed a fabulous day on the lakes course.  The course looked beautiful and was complimented by members and visitors alike.

and in particular some of our own “home grown” members,
who went on to win.

The raffle in aid of L.I.V.E.S charity raised £260 and
Becky would like to thank all those who kindly donated prizes.

Becky also wishes to thank to all those who took part and played on the day and also extends a big “thank you” to all those who gave their time and effort into ensuring the day went smoothly.

IMG_0302 Small Web viewPast Captains still fit for Hole in One

The sun came out and shone for the former captains of Belton Woods on their yearly meeting to find out who’s still got it.
Jane Forbes, sponsor of the ladies’ trophy, showed oIMG_0300 Small Web viewff and can be proud to be only the second lady who has won the trophy 3 times over the years. Jim King can’t hold off more than a year and reclaimed the trophy yet again!
But the most special off all was the “hole in one” on the 2nd of the Lakes course by Pat Stamford which was celebrated in style by the ladies with a  glass of wine.

A big “thank you” goes to Jane and George for organising the day.

Success for first ladies’ league
and friendly matches

Well there couldn’t have been a finer start to the ‘A’ Team’s season.

The weather decided to show us that Spring had finally arrived with some blue skies and a little warmth!  With such an enthusiastic team we were ready for our first League match against Carholme GC. The pairings of Jackie/Lesley, Evelyn/Trudi, Shirley/Val and Lorraine/Lisa were successful in each match to secure an outstanding 4-0 win. Well bteam Medium Web viewdone everyone.

The following week we were out in force again. We fielded the same pairings and this time it was Boston West who succumbed to our strength as we claimed victory once again with a 3-1 win. Thank you for your commitment as always and for making my role as League Captain so straightforward.

It was a windy and challenging day for the B Team’s first League Match at home on the Lakes course against Blankney. Despite the weather the B Team played exceptionally and defeated Blankney by a whopping 3-1. The Blankney ladies had an enIMG_0270 Medium Web viewjoyable day and were very gracious in their loss. Well done to the B Team your support is valuable and much appreciated. Good luck for the next match. Thanks also go to Lady Captain Becky and Past Captain Kathy for being there to see us off.

Wednesday, 10th April 2013 was the first of the ladies’ friendly matches.  Belton Woods ladies played against Toft ladies and won 3-1.  It was a most enjoyable day and the ladies from Toft were very complimentary about the course and the carvery served after the match.

Congratulations to Heidi Rees and Nikki Mason who go forward to the third round in the Daily Mail Foursomes after beating Newark ladies 6&4 at Newark Golf Club. Well done to both ladies!

mail on Sunday

Our next draw in The Mail on Sunday was at home against Sleaford. Unfortunately for us they pulled out some of their top players who were unfazed by our Woodside course (think the water could have helped here) as they secured a 3-2 win. It was a well fought match that so very nearly sent Steph Lee back up the first to battle on for a result! Thank you everyone for participating and to Heidi for captaining in Trudi’s absence.

A very excited but slightly nervous team embarked on their first match in The Mail on Sunday competition at Sherwood Forest.

The weather was amazing (for time of year) relatively mild  and hardly a breath of wind, and those conditions were perfect for us to secure a 31/2 11/2 win on this challenging golf course.

Well done & thank you Ladies, let’s hope for another exciting venue as we eagerly await our next draw!

Picture1Congratulations to Heidi Rees & Nikki Masson for winning the Daily Mail Foursomes qualifier with a score of 32 stableford points. Belton Woods received a bye for the first round so they go straight through to round 2 in the knock-out stages.

Well done Heidi & Jeff for winning the Valentine’s Competition!

The sun was shining as 18 pairs took part in the first mixed competition of 2013.
